Opportunities to Learn
(Homework)
I call this section opportunities to learn, instead of homework, for two reasons: the work assigned does not have to be completed at home; it can be completed at any time the student has free time, and also because the work assigned is simply practice. An opportunity to find out what they know, and what they may still need some extra work on. No team would expect to play well in a game if they did not practice. In the same fashion, we should not expect to perform well in school if we do not practice what we learn in class. If the student does not complete the work, then they will not be as well off as a student that does choose to complete the work. Opportunities to learn should almost never take more than 10-15 minutes per night, are rarely graded for correctness, and are worth 3 points each day.
